From ITV’s Fantasy World Cup series with David Baddiel and Frank Skinner, here is a classic Phoenix From The Flames sketch featuring Ilunga Mwepu kicking away a Brazil free-kick for Zaire in their 1974 FIFA World Cup match on June 22, 1974 Broadcast on 11th June 1998 I’m looking to increase my collection of full episodes of this – I presently have about a dozen BBC episodes, and all of the ITV episodes. I had to wait 5 or so minutes before posting cos I was laughing so much. just when you think it’s reached the comic peak, it usurps it – the cravat joke, the porn Sinstadt running gag, the dog, and then the punchline. god I wish they’d never stopped this programme.

i was watching the world cup draw today and when they were doing a history lesson of past world cups they showed this part!!!! i thought about this vid and laughed so hard!
God bless Ilunga Mwepu! The story behind his iconic moment is actually quite a sad one that tells you much about his country’s tragic state of affairs at the time. It’s fantastic that he can see the humour in it, and Zaire definitely had the best shirt in World Cup history. Hope to see them return as DR Congo one day.
@DIGSYtheBRIT They aren’t doing another series of Fantasy Football, but they are doing another series of World Cup podcasts, as they did for the 2006, all of which you can still download from their official website.
In addition, they are also doing a live radio show for Absolute Radio during next year’s tournament.

They could pick on anyone. Probably someone like niklas Bendtner for being unpredictable, Adebayor as well, Anderson because he’s shit and has similar hair to jason lee, Jimmy Bullard because the guys hilarious, coaches: Harry Redknapp, David moyes because hes scottish
